Best and Mess of the Week: The CFDA Awards 2018

I'm bringing back "Best and Mess of the Week" as my first post for this month, with some quick commentary and insight on the CFDA Awards that took place Monday.

If you're not familiar with what the CFDA is then let me tell you, the Council of Fashion Designers of America is a non-profit trade association of over 450 American fashion and accessory designers. The organization's stated mission is to strengthen the influence and success of American designers in the global economy. In addition to hosting the annual CFDA Fashion Awards, the organization seeks to develop future American design talent through scholarships and support and resources in high schools, colleges, and post-graduate schools. The CFDA also provides funds to support working designers during their careers and provides business opportunities for the membership. Through the CFDA Foundation, it mobilizes its members to support charitable causes.

The annual celeb-studded awards event, which was hosted by the beautiful Issa Rae this year gave us so many red carpet looks ranging from fabulous to "Why the freak did she wear that ?!"

First of up on the Best list is... Miss Issa for the win!

She wore a royal blue jumpsuit with a sheer Swarovski crystal overlay by Pyer Moss. Her black belt was embroidered with the title of a Boris Gardiner song that was used at Pyer Moss’s Spring 2018 show. Issa never misses a opportuity to put the spotlight on the black community and how much we contribute to the entertainment and fashion industry. She always makes her messgae clear, does not apologize, and executes it with such grace everytime.

Next in line we have another black queen, Lupita Nyong'o:

Ms. Nyong'o wore a custom Versace bustier gown with a matching plume embroidered choker which added just the right amount of drama to this ensemble. Usually, she plays it pretty safe with her red carpet looks but this is by far one of my favorites.

I only have one spot on the Mess list this week and it's occupied by the young model, Kaia Gerber.

We all know Kaia inherited a lot of things from her mom, Cindy Crawford, like great legs, the same pretty face and a successful modeling career but I'm not sure if she passed on any sense to her. She wore a all Alexander Wang outfit including an oversized button down shirt with a midriff cutout, printed boxer shorts, and logo printed stocking heels. Even though the outfit was fresh and cute, it wasn't the right fit for this red carpet. We still love you Kaia but try again sis.
